Future Transition under consideration for 2026: Public Charity or Private Family Foundation

  • As the Foundation matures and with a target funding threshold, it will transition to a public charity or a private family foundation (Section 501(c)(3)) to establish a more permanent and autonomous philanthropic structure.
  • Continuous governance by independent directors ensures both family engagement and best-practice oversight in both phases.
Funding and Sustainability

The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from the family, a select circle of supportive friends and selected organizations that adhere to Louis' values. Additional fundraising strategies and endowment growth will be considered to ensure long-term sustainability.

The Donation Acknowledgment Form outlines how and when donors will receive acknowledgment for their contributions to the Louis Montagut Foundation. Tax Documentation:

  • The acknowledgment letter serves as your official receipt for tax purposes. Keep this letter for your records when filing your tax returns.
  • You will receive additional documentation as needed, especially for contributions involving appreciated assets, which may require specific reporting details.
Tax and Legal Compliance
  • The Foundation will adhere to all DAF regulatory requirements during the initial phase and will transition to compliance with private foundation regulations upon evolution, including minimum distribution rules, annual reporting (IRS Form 990-PF), and stewardship commitments.
  • Professional advisors (legal, accounting, and investment) will be engaged as needed to ensure best practices and compliance.
